Ryan J. Carey is a historian and teacher at the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He is interested in the relationship between historical memory, academic history, and history education and focuses on the history of the American West, Environmental History, and race and slavery. Formerly, he was the Director of Public Programs at the Museum of the City of New York, faculty in history at Bard College at Simon's Rock, and visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his Ph.D. in U.S. history.
